He grew up in the church where he found himself singing bass and baritone parts in many chores. He moved to Nashville after high school to pursue a career in music. He enrolled into Belmont University. He made his debut on the Grand Ole Opry back on December 21, 2003 when he sung the song Long Black Train. He got a standing ovation in the middle of the song. He released his album Long Black Train in 2003. In 2006 he released another album Your Man which that title song reached number 1 on the Billboard County Chart. As did Would You Go With Me.
